Dragon Movie Review
A superb entertainer that ticks all the boxes and delivers great fun!
Pradeep Ranganathan’s Comali and Love Today were success stories that had the right amount of emotions, comedy, love and entertainment. Ashwath Marimuthu’s debut film in Oh My Kadavule too, was a film that delivered the same goods. And when these two get together, one expects an entertainer on the same lines, but to everyone’s pleasant surprise — Dragon delivers more and gives us a fun film that is not just funny, engaging and entertaining but also meaningful and relatable.
Dragon is a story about the ‘lost college stars’ who are superstars in their college life, but then go on to lose their way and become wastrels. The film takes it step by step in narrating the incidents, and brings things ahead interestingly, in a funny way that is friendly and easy to catch for the audiences. While the breezy first half is funny and lands the core of the film, the second half is the real deal as it is excellently placed with comic bits, romance, familial episodes and the emotional ending which is the best part of the film. Dragon wins big in its final 30 minutes, which work so well and will definitely relate with audiences.
Pradeep Ranganathan proves that he is here to stay with a phenomenal effort that is showing that he is getting better and better as an actor. The film is filled with good performances — Kayadu Lohar makes a great debut and is very pretty while Anupama gets one of her best roles after Premam. The film also strikes with sublime performances from Mysskin, George Maryam and GVM.
Dragon hits it hard with its technical finesse as well — the shaky camera in the first half is a bit of a disturbance but as the film progresses, the visual language gets better and better. Leon James’ music is a big plus as well, with superb songs and BGM that properly complements the film.
On the whole, Dragon is a slam dunk entertainer that is sure to connect with the masses.
