No change in plans: Lokesh to direct Rajini – Kamal collaboration
Lokesh Kanagaraj remains attached to the Rajinikanth – Kamal Haasan collaboration, with filming likely to commence after their ongoing projects conclude.
Speculation surrounding the much-awaited Rajinikanth – Kamal Haasan collaboration gained traction after Rajinikanth’s recent interaction at the airport, where he avoided confirming the director of the project. This created uncertainty among fans and industry observers about Lokesh Kanagaraj’s involvement.
However, sources close to the development have clarified that the film remains firmly under Lokesh’s direction. It is learned that the idea of bringing the two icons together originated with Lokesh himself, making his role central to the project’s inception. Given this, industry trackers suggest there has been no change in the film’s course and that Lokesh will indeed helm the reunion.
The shoot is expected to take off in the second half of 2026. Rajinikanth will first fulfill his commitments with Jailer 2, while Kamal Haasan will complete his current action film directed by the Anbariv duo. In the meantime, Lokesh is preparing for his acting debut in Arun Matheswaran’s upcoming directorial. Following this, he is likely to begin pre-production work on the Rajini – Kamal venture early next year.
The project, bringing together two of Indian cinema’s most celebrated stars under one director, is already being viewed as one of the industry’s most significant and eagerly awaited films.
