Kudumbasthan Movie Review
A rip roaring family comedy entertainer!
Family drama-comedies, a pure genre very rare and tough to pull off is something that doesn’t come in too often, and even when it does — it doesn’t work on all occasions. But here comes one in the form of Kudumbasthan, a film that reminds us of the good old Visu and V. Sekar films, with a heart of the yesteryears and the eccentricity of today.
Kudumbasthan is the story of a family man and his adventures, how he comes across the various struggles in his life and how he has tomatoes thrown on his face at every step in his career. On top of this, there’s the endless demand for money, respect, people and more. The film starts off with Naveen’s (Manikandan) love life and how he gets married to his girlfriend, and then moves off to one year later, where he loses his job, finds himself in a loop of trouble. The middle class situations are skilfully rolled into the narrative with so much comedy and excitement in the screenplay, and it’s so fresh to see such funny scenes enacted by majorly new faces and lesser known names. The film has 3 ROFL moments in the first half which will make you laugh out loud for sure. In the second half, it gets into the serious mode and becomes a bit generic, but writer Prasanna and director Rajeshwar keep the ball rolling with comedy, emotions and a certified superb climax.
Kudumbasthan strikes big thanks to the presence of Manikandan, who is excellent playing the middle class man who falls into trouble in a jiffy. Manikandan is so good that we actually enjoy him falling into trouble, and want him to get into more mud as the film travels through its episodes, and the man is superbly supported by Guru Somasundaram who plays his brother in law.
The ego clash between Manikandan and Guru Somasundaram is the core of the film, and it evokes laughter with ease everywhere. Saanve Meghana is also excellent in the film, along with the senior actors R. Sundarrajan and Malayalam actor Kudassanad Kanakam add flavor to the film too.
The film is technically good with the visuals by Sujith keeping it simple and neat, while Vaisagh’s songs add decent support and his BGM as well.
On the whole, Kudumbasthan is a terrific entertainer that is great fun for the whole family. It is a film that is sure to relate with any middle class man watching it!
